Excuse the language but holy shit have you seen the latest Spiderman trailer? Following the Electro advertised teaser we all saw a few months back, the official trailer is here and my god it makes me think why I would ever wish Marvel to go on holiday for a while...okay The Avengers was something special); as was The Amazing Spiderman (2012).
I am going to go out on a limb here and say, and while it is still early days, this might be the best Marvel superhero blockbuster since The Avengers (2012).
The latest posters from the last stand replicate a similar movie (like the trailer hadn't already).
Arnie's cinematic comeback is just around the corner, and I am excited. However the trailer shows some resemblance to that of The Rock's Walking Tall and the inclusion from "off the radar" slash part-time actor Johnny Knoxville supports my argument. Yeah sure this movie is a no brainer but I can't help to have hoped for a more creative return from Arnie (excluding Jackass).
Anyway I am still looking forward to some mindless punishment from the man himself!
The Last Stand hits theaters January 25th.
Mortal Kombat legacy is set to return for a second season, with director Kevin Tancharoen reprising a web series that raked in more than 60 million views in 2011.
Fans of last years web-series are in for treat, with Tancharoen set to take the series back to its original concept - tournament style. With fan favourites such as Liu Kang and Ermac on board, Tancharoen reveals a nostalgic return, he said; "Fans are in for a real treat with the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy. With added visual effects and storylines that dive deeper into our warriors as
they make their way to the tournament, we’re taking this series to a whole new
level. I'm really looking forward to showing fans the first clip during the
Streamy Awards on February 17."
What was an unsuccessful pitch to Warner Bros in 11", Mortal Kombat: Rebirth supplied an original imagination, but it was on the brink of disperse following the online teaser. Although Tancharoen's original agenda had failed, Rebirth went viral with out-cry for a theatrical release. Failing to re-invent Mortal Kombat to the big screen, Tancharoen was giving the go-ahead to shoot a plethora of web series, leading to where we are now. However I still wouldn't rule out the possibility of an MK re-boot.

Although I am a die-hard MK fan, and with the "Legacy" failing to impress me on many occasions, Tancharoen's second pop looks set to make a significant mark and some what a redemption for what has been a mediocre adaption in 95" followed by a terrible sequel.
MK Legacy season 2 will see Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprise his role as Shang Tsung. Those who remember the theatrical release will have vague images of his introduction following the "Fight music"? you know, "Your soul is mine!". He was bad ass and should retain that image in February of 2013.
In the mean time, it's an MK Legacy catch-up for me.
Warner Bros have confirmed quite an unlikely reboot. Thankfully, for fans of the roughed up series, Mortal Kombat is back in the pipeline with a generous budget at hand. Mind-set on a new bloody adaption of the cult-classical video game, Warner Bros executive Lance Sloan is hopeful with their appointed director; “We're preparing right now for the film withKevin Tancharoen, [who] directed the digital series for us"
While the success of the video games are welcomed more than the majority of fighting games of that genre, some might say the movie adaption, Mortal Kombat (1995) was not all that great. However it is a debate I am willing to challenge because in terms of effort as well as the history concerning game to movie conversions, Mortal Kombat tops the lot of them. Nit-picking at such a fine attempt is unfortunate, however Christopher Lambert' Raiden and Robin Shou as Lui Kang was quite the entertainment, not forgetting the fight scenes; that somehow managed to flow without the use of human decapitation.

In my last Movienewz article, I discussed the latest on the Rise of the Apes sequel, with the possibility of it being scrapped due to the previous director Rupert Wyatt confirming doubts over his return. It is fair to say, and quite unfortunate, Mr Wyatt is no longer part of "Dawn Of the Apes", rather the intervention of Director Matt Reeves.
Scheduled for May 2013, the folks behind the scenes remain tight-lipped for obvious reasons but touch on a direct continuation from where Caesar (Serkis) left off. The intelligence of Caesar will remain a huge factor, with Empire revealing a further take-over, resulting in the creation of devious apes we know too well.

Sylvestor Stallone's upcoming ear-blaster "Bullet to the head" is well and truely viral, even more so with the second trailer released yesterday.
-"You don't just kill a guy like that!"...Stallone - "I just did!"
What can we expect? Well for those who don't know the story, it follows a New Orleans cop (Sung Kang) teaming up with a reputated hitman (Sylvester Stallone). Why? well, in typical nostalgic 80's fashion why not take down a vicious crime boss slash Henchman, Morel (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), who in my opinion has quite an onscreen presence. On a slightly amusing note: Christian Slater is also part of the crew. Remember him?

*Too late Comic geeks, "Man Of Steel" will be darkly realistic, like we hoped!
Words we will thankfully embrace from screen writer David S.Goyer; "What Christopher Nolan and I have done with Superman is try to bring the same naturalistic approach that we adopted for the Batman trilogy. We always had a naturalistic approach, we want our stories to be rooted in reality".
We would be lying if we felt the teaser trailer gave off any different. Don't be fooled, Chris Nolan has not got a huge part behind the scenes, but the realistic, human-like concept of Superman will definitely carry a slight ingredient from Mr Nolan.
Directed By Zack Snyder, the film will look to resurrect the return of Superman in better fashion than it's predecessor, adding a super-hero's origin to a concept that could almost feel believable.

Those are the thoughts from Hugh Jackman on his vision of the X-Men icon. Empire got hold of the first image from the Wolverine re-boot yesterday. It is a re-boot ain't it? if not it should be. If Jackman's comments above mean anything, he will demand an R-rated premise to the movie with a more dramatic ingredient. After all, he does grow blades from his fists in blind rage!
The image reveals a quality tone to both the overall graphic and the expression of seriousness from Mr Jackman.

A Hitchcock Resurrection
A glimpse of the first image and possible poster of Anthony Hopkins in the upcoming Hitchcock film (right).
For those who don't know, the anticipated movie will not be a life-biopic. The film will follow the events leading up to the making of Psycho and the controversies surrounding its development. Supporting a cast to die for, Helen Mirren who plays the wife of Alfred is one of a fine cast set to represent the haunting production that was filmed in 1959. Exciting times for the Horror genre
On the brink of Halloween, Sinister (right) looks to be the scariest movie of 2012. The last time a movie truly frightened me was Insidious. I can not wait for this to drop, hopefully near-around Halloween. Horror fans will love what has been seen so far.
Box office
The US box office remains tight as Jake Jake Gyllenhaal's End Of Watch and spooky thriller House At The End Of The Street continue to tie on 13 million. As Ireland await the drop of cop drama End of watch, I can judge House at the End as a pretty mediocre movie. The fact that the US audience are blowing their money on such a film is laughable. Running third is Trouble With The Curve starring Clint Eastwood; A baseball flick, which means any concept focusing on baseball is meant for the United States only, and maybe Canada. In some other hilarious box office news, Resident Evil: Retribution thankfully free-falled to 5th position with 6.7 million. Apparently it held top for a short while. So while Resident rubbish and a re-release of Nemo (3D) at 4th, Dredd hardly managed to grab the attention of cinema goers as it gets comfortable with 6.3 million, staying in 6th position. WHAT? Have the US bothered to see Dredd? no! It rocked. Something tells me it is the same minority of people that Adam Sandler and Co target for cash. People open your mind, but at the same time don't be so gullible. After all, you did just see Resident Evil: Retri-who gives a shit! Scary Movie 5. Obviously The first screen shot for the next mundane piece of childish comedy. What was once a genius concept that brought a whole new ingredient to the words "spoof comedy", it's fair to say the more they were released, the absolute worst they became. With news that the Wayans brothers have abandoned ship, the release which is set for 2013 will throw more stupidity at us with the credentials of two idiotic and slightly irrelevant actors, Charlie Sheen (again) and Lindsay Lohan (right). I might end up eating my words, but until a teaser drops?, I will hold my pessimistic position.

So another year and yet another writer struggled to pen something original. Michael Bay or someone related to him - "Hey, I know, let us combine something different. What are the two components in today's filming the fans hate? 3D and Horror remakes, so lets combine both and make some lazy money". Well, congrats to those guys. Watch the latest massacre of what was once a cult classic. (below).
Apes sequel in Jeopardy?
According to Total Film, Rupert Wyatt, who directed Rise of the Apes is planning on calling time on his proposed sequel. What was written to continue on from the previous, Wyatt is struggling to abide by the apparent release date which was set for May 23rd 2014. I know, like a year and a half of preparation. Who knows. Hopefully this can be resolved quickly, as judging from the success of Rise of the apes, it would be fantastic to keep Rupert's imagination.

Universally obvious Universal studios has failed to let the dust settle among this years release of Ted and The Bourne Legacy by revealing a sequel for both movies. Doing what most productions do which is to take a look at the income from both, showing 400Million from Ted alone. For obvious reasons, Bourne failed to live up to the hype. Although they still wish to continue the story of Jeremy's character as they hope to open up a whole new world to the Bourne franchise.

A trailer worth mentioning.
Cloud Atlas is a six minute preview of what looks an extraordinary mess that I wish someone could explain to me. With a fine cast such as Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Halle Berry and many more, they are supporting a concept that seems to collaborate with the past, present and future. It reminds me of the release of Avatar; which went viral and caused insane reactions in terms of the visual, original concept from James Cameron. Cloud Atlas looks to be heading in that direction. This could all be over rated, which is a disease I believe caught up with Avatar in the end! Although one can not ignore the visual mind-fuck of what the trailer has to offer. Cloud Atlas is due for release in October.
So at least six months ago I was telling folks about a Dumb and Dumber sequel (a real one) and how excited I was, relating the possibility of Jim Carey actually being funny again! Well, a Harry and Lloyd reunion was then scrapped due to director commitments. So thanks to the original directors, the Farrelly brothers, a sequel is now back on track with plans to start shooting in 2013!
For those who were unaware, the construction of an Uncharted movie is long overdue. Almost 3 years since I first heard of Hollywood's desires, it seems the films production has taken one step forward and two steps back. The latest news tells us that the original director has abandoned ship while two new writers of come aboard. (you like that?). With no news on who will play the humorous dare-devil, the official news is directors Marianne and Cormac Wibberly will weather the screen play. Who? I can tell you they are the amateur master-minds behind such movies as The 6th Day (2000) ,Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003) and I Spy (2002). Eeek!
